نرى أَنه اشتق من العَدْن، وهو أَن تلزم الإبلُ مكانًا، فتألُفه؛ يقال تُركت إبلُ بني فلان عوادِن بمكان كذا وكذا، ومنه قيل: المَعْدِن؛ لأَنه مكان يثبت فيه الناس، ولا يتحوَّلون عنه في الصيف والربيع.
