هو: علم يبحث فيه عن أحوال الجوارح من حيث حفظ صحتها وإزالة مرضها ومعرفة العلامات الدالة على قوتها في الصيد وضعفها فيه.
وموضوعه وغايته وغرضه: ظاهر لا يخفى على أحد وكتاب: القانون الواضح كاف في هذا العلم كذا في: مفتاح السعادة ومثله في: مدينة العلوم.
