عكمس: ويُقالُ: عَكْمَسَ اللَّيلُ عَكْمَسَةً: إذا أظْلَمَ، قال: واللَّيلُ ليلُ السَّماكَيْن العُكامِس. وكلُّ شيءٍ كَثُفَ وتَراكَم فهو عُكامِس، قال العجّاج:
عُكامِسٌ كالسُّنْدُسِ المَنْشورِ
