[عفط] عَفَطَتِ العنز تَعْفِطُ عَفْطاً : حَبَقَتْ. والعَفْطُ والعَفيطُ: نثير الضأن تنثرُ بأنوفها كما ينثر الحمار، وهى العفطة أيضا. وقولهم: " ماله عافطة ولا نافطة " . قال أبو الدقيش: العافِطَةُ: النعجةُ. والنافِطَةُ: العنز، لانها تنفط بأنفها. قال: وهذا كقولهم: " ماله ثاغية ولا راغية "، أي لا شاة تثغو ولا ناقة ترغو. وعفط الراعي بغنمه، إذا زجرها بصوتٍ يشبه عَفْطَها. والعافِطةُ والعفَّاطَةُ: الأَمَةَ الراعية.
