عثم: عُثمانيّ وعُثْمانية، تجمع على عَثامنة: قطعة نقد تركية تساوي ثلث البارة وخُمس الشاهية وواحد من مائة وعشرين من القرش (بوشر).
عثن عُثنون: وردت في ديوان الهذليين ص282 البيت السابع.

(عَثَمَ) الْعَيْنُ وَالثَّاءُ وَالْمِيمُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى غِلَظٍ وَنُتُوٍّ فِي الشَّيْءِ. قَالُوا: الْعَيْثُومُ: الضَّخْمُ الشَّدِيدُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ. وَقَالُوا: وَتُسَمَّى الْفِيَلَةُ الْعَيْثُومَ. قَالَ يَصِفُ نَاقَةً:

وَقَدْ أَسِيرُ أَمَامَ الْحَيِّ تَحْمِلُنِي ... وَالْفَصْلَتَيْنِ كِنَازُ اللَّحْمِ عَيْثُومُ

أَيْ ضَخْمَةٌ شَدِيدَةٌ. وَيُقَالُ لِلْجَمَلِ الضَّخْمِ عَيْثُومُ. وَالْعَثَمْثَمُ مِنَ الْإِبِلِ: الطَّوِيلُ فِي ضِخَمٍ، وَ [يُقَالُ] فِي الْجَمِيعِ عَثْمَثَمَاتٌ. وَرُبَّمَا وُصِفَ الْأَسَدُ بِالْعَثَمْثَمِ.

وَمِنَ الْبَابِ الْعَثْمُ، وَهُوَ أَنْ يُسَاءَ جَبْرُ الْعَظْمِ فَيَبْقَى فِيهِ عِوَجٌ وَنُتُوٌّ كَالْوَرَمِ. وَيُقَالُ هُوَ عَثِمٌ وَبِهِ عَثْمٌ، كَأَنَّهُ مَشَشٌ. قَالَ الْخَلِيلُ: وَبِهِ سُمِّي عُثْمَانُ; لِأَنَّهُ مَأْخُوذٌ مِنَ الْجَبْرِ. وَيُقَالُ بَلِ الْعُثْمَانُ. . .
