ومن المجاز: طما الفرس إذا أسرع. وطمت المرأة بزوجها: نشزت عليه. وطمت بالغويّ نفسه. قال الأعشى:

وكنت إذا نفس الغويّ طمت به ... صفعت على العرنين منه بميسم

وطما به الهم والخوف: اشتد. ولعبد الله الفقير إليه:

قد طما بي خوف المنية لكن ... خوف ما يعقب المنية أطمى
