(ضَمَزَ) الضَّادُ وَالْمِيمُ وَالزَّاءُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى إِمْسَاكٍ فِي كَلَامٍ أَوْ إِمْسَاكٍ عَلَى شَيْءٍ بِفَمٍ وَمَا أَشْبَهَ ذَلِكَ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ ضَمَزَ الْبَعِيرُ: أَمْسَكَ عَنِ الْجِرَّةِ. وَالضَّامِزُ: السَّاكِتُ. وَقَالَ بِشْرٌ: وَقَدْ ضَمَزَتْ بِجِرَّتِهَا سُلَيْمٌ ... مَخَافَتَنَا كَمَا ضَمَزَ الْحِمَارُ

وَالضَّمْزُ: ضَرْبٌ مِنَ الْأَكْلِ، لِأَنَّهُ إِذَا أَكَلَ أَمْسَكَ عَلَيْهِ فِي فَمِهِ. وَضَمَزَ فُلَانٌ عَلَى مَالِي، أَيْ لَزِمَهُ.

وَمِمَّا شَذَّ عَنْ هَذَا الْأَصْلِ: الضَّمْزَةُ: الْأَكَمَةُ الْخَاشِعَةُ، وَالْجَمْعُ: ضَمْزٌ.
