الشَّوْبُ: الخلط. قال الله تعالى: لَشَوْباً مِنْ حَمِيمٍ [الصافات/ 67] ، وسمّي العسل شَوْباً، إمّا لكونه مزاجا للأشربة، وإمّا لما يختلط به من الشّمع. وقيل: ما عنده شَوْبٌ ولا روب ، أي: عسل ولبن.
