(هـ) فِي حَدِيثِ الْعَبَّاسِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ «قَالَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ: يَا أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ: أسْلموا تَسْلَموا، فَقَدِ اسْتْبطْنتُم بِأَشْهَبَ بَازِل» أَيْ رُمِيتم بأمرٍ صَعْب شَدِيدٍ لَا طاقَة لَكُمْ بِهِ. يُقَالُ يومٌ أَشْهَبُ، وسَنةٌ شَهْبَاءُ، وجَيْشٌ أَشْهَبُ: أَيْ قَوىٌّ شديدٌ. واكثرُ مَا يُستعمل فِي الشدَّةِ والكَراهة.
وجعَلَه بازِلاً لِأَنَّ بُزُول البَعير نهايُته فِي القُوّة.
(س) وَمِنْهُ حَدِيثُ حَلِيمَةَ «خَرَجْتُ فِي سَنةٍ شَهْبَاءَ» أَيْ ذاتِ قَحْط وجَدْب. والشَّهْبَاءُ:
الأرضُ البيضاءُ الَّتِي لَا خَضْرَة فِيهَا لِقِلَّة المَطَر، مِنَ الشُّهْبَةِ، وَهِيَ البَياضُ، فسُمِّيت سَنةُ الجَدْب بِهَا.
وَفِي حَدِيثِ اسْتِراق السَّمْع «فربَّما أدْرَكه الشِّهَابُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُلّقِيَها» يَعْنِي الكلِمةَ المُسْتَرَقة، وَأَرَادَ بِالشِّهَابِ الَّذِي يَنْقَضُّ فِي اللَّيْلِ شِبْه الْكَوْكَبِ، وَهُوَ فِي الْأَصْلِ الشُّعْلة مِنَ النَّارِ.

(شَهَِبَ) الشِّينُ وَالْهَاءُ وَالْبَاءُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى بَيَاضٍ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْ سَوَادٍ، لَا تَكُونُ الشُّهْبَةُ خَالِصَةً بَيَاضًا. وَمِنْ ذَلِكَ الشُّهْبَةُ فِي الْفَرَسِ، هُوَ بَيَاضٌ يُخَالِطُهُ سَوَادٌ. وَيُقَالُ كَتِيبَةٌ شَهْبَاءُ، إِذَا كَانَتْ عِلْيَتُهَا بَيَاضَ الْحَدِيدِ، وَيُقَالُ لِلْيَوْمِ ذِي الْبَرْدِ وَالصُّرَّادِ: أَشْهَبُ، وَاللَّيْلَةُ الشَّهْبَاءُ. وَيُقَالُ: اشْهَابَّ الزَّرْعُ، إِذَا هَاجَ وَبَقِيَ فِي خِلَالِهِ شَيْءٌ أَخْضَرُ. وَمِنَ الْبَابِ: الشِّهَابُ، وَهُوَ شُعْلَةُ نَارٍ سَاطِعَةٌ. وَإِنَّ فُلَانًا لَشِهَابُ حَرْبٍ، وَذَلِكَ إِذَا كَانَ مَعْرُوفًا فِيهَا مَشْهُورًا كَشُهْرَةِ الْكَوَاكِبِ اللَّوَامِعِ. وَيُقَالُ إِنَّ النَّصْلَ الْأَشْهَبَ الَّذِي قَدْ بُرِدَ بَرْدًا خَفِيفًا حَتَّى ذَهَبَ سَوَادُهُ. وَيُقَالُ إِنَّ الشِّهَابَ اللَّبَنُ الضَّيَاحُ، وَإِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ بِذَلِكَ لِأَنَّ مَاءَهُ قَدْ كَثُرَ فَصَارَ كَالْبَيَاضِ الَّذِي يُخَالِطُهُ لَوْنٌ آخَرُ.
