ش م ع: (الشَّمَعُ) بِفَتْحَتَيْنِ الَّذِي يُسْتَصْبَحُ بِهِ. قَالَ الْفَرَّاءُ: هَذَا كَلَامُ الْعَرَبِ وَالْمُوَلِّدُونَ يُسَكِّنُونَهُ. وَ (الشَّمَعَةُ) أَخَصُّ مِنْهُ. وَ (الْمَشْمَعَةُ) بِوَزْنِ الْمَتْرَبَةِ، اللَّعِبُ وَالْمِزَاحُ. وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ: «مَنْ تَتَبَّعَ الْمَشْمَعَةَ - أَيْ مَنْ عَبَثَ بِالنَّاسِ - أَصَارَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَى حَالَةٍ يُعْبَثُ بِهِ فِيهَا» .
