(شَمَطَ) [وَأَمَّا] الشِّينُ وَالْمِيمُ وَالطَّاءُ فَقِيَاسٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى الْخُلْطَةِ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ الشَّمَطُ، وَهُوَ اخْتِلَاطُ الشَّيْبِ بِسَوَادِ الشَّبَابِ.

وَيُقَالُ لِكُلِّ خَلِيطَيْنِ خَلَطْتَهُمَا: قَدْ شَمَطْتَهُمَا، وَهُمَا شَمِيطٌ. وَقَالَ: وَبِهِ سُمِّيَ الصَّبَاحُ شَمِيطًا لِاخْتِلَاطِهِ بِبَاقِي ظُلْمَةِ اللَّيْلِ. وَقَالُوا: قَالَ أَبُو عَمْرٍو: يُقَالُ أَشْمَطُوا حَدِيثًا مَرَّةً وَشِعْرًا مَرَّةً.

وَمِنَ الْبَابِ: الشَّمَاطِيطُ: الْفِرَقُ ; يُقَالُ جَاءَ الْخَيْلُ شَمَاطِيطَ. وَيَقُولُونَ: هَذِهِ الْقِدْرُ تَسَعُ شَاةً بِشَمْطِهَا وَبِشِمْطِهَا، أَيْ بِمَا خُلِطَ مَعَهَا مِنْ تَوَابِلِهَا.
