(شَكَمَ) الشِّينُ وَالْكَافُ وَالْمِيمُ أَصْلَانِ صَحِيحَانِ: أَحَدُهُمَا يَدُلُّ عَلَى عَطَاءٍ، وَالْآخَرُ يَدُلُّ عَلَى شِدَّةٍ فِي شَيْءٍ وَقُوَّةٍ.

فَالْأَوَّلُ: الشَّكْمُ وَهُوَ الْعَطَاءُ وَالثَّوَابُ. يُقَالُ شَكَمَنِي شَكْمًا، وَالِاسْمُ الشُّكْمُ. وَجَاءَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ [ «احْتَجَمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ: اشْكُمُوهُ» ] ، أَيْ أَعْطَوهُ أَجْرَهُ. وَقَالَ الشَّاعِرُ:

أَمْ هَلْ كَبِيرٌ بَكَى لَمْ يَقْضِ عَبْرَتَهُ ... إِثْرَ الْأَحِبَّةِ يَوْمَ الْبَيْنِ مَشْكُومُ

وَقَالَ آخَرُ:

أَبْلِغْ قَتَادَةَ غَيْرَ سَائِلِهِ ... مِنْهُ الْعَطَاءَ وَعَاجِلَ الشُّكْمِ

وَالْأَصْلُ الْآخَرُ: الشَّكِيمَةُ: أَيْ شِدَّةُ النَّفْسِ. وَالشَّكِيمَةُ شَكِيمَةُ اللِّجَامِ، وَهِيَ الْحَدِيدَةُ الْمُعْتَرِضَةُ الَّتِي فِيهَا الْفَأْسُ، وَالْجَمْعُ شَكَائِمُ. وَحَكَى نَاسٌ: شَكَمَهُ، أَيْ عَضَّهُ. وَالشَّكِيمُ: الْعَضُّ فِي قَوْلِ جَرِيرٍ:

أَصَابَ ابْنَ حَمْرَاءِ الْعِجَانِ شَكِيمُهَا

وَشَكِيمُ الْقِدْرِ: عُرَاهَا.
