(شَتَمَ) الشِّينُ وَالتَّاءُ وَالْمِيمُ يَدُلُّ عَلَى كَرَاهَةٍ وَبِغْضَةٍ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْأَسَدُ الشَّتِيمُ، وَهُوَ الْكَرِيهُ الْوَجْهِ. وَكَذَلِكَ الْحِمَارُ الشَّتِيمُ. وَاشْتِقَاقُ الشَّتْمِ مِنْهُ ; لِأَنَّهُ كَلَامٌ كَرِيهٌ.
