(سَوَّفَ)
(س) فِيهِ «لَعنَ اللَّهُ الْمُسَوِّفَةَ» هِيَ الَّتِي إِذَا أَرَادَ زَوْجُها أَنْ يَأْتِيَها لَمْ تُطَاوِعه، وَقَالَتْ سَوْفَ أفعلُ. والتَّسْوِيفُ: المَطْلُ والتّأخِير.
(س) وَفِي حَدِيثِ الدُّؤلي «وَقَفَ عَلَيْهِ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَقَالَ: أكَلَني الفَقْرُ، وَرَدَّني الدَّهر ضَعيفاً مُسِيفاً» الْمُسِيفُ: الَّذِي ذَهَبَ مَالُهُ. مِنَ السُّوَافِ، وَهُوَ داءٌ يُهْلِك الْإِبِلَ. وَقَدْ تُفْتَحُ سينُه خَارِجًا عَنْ قِيَاسِ نَظَائِرِهِ. وَقِيلَ هُوَ بِالْفَتْحِ الفَنَاء.
(هـ) وَفِيهِ «اصْطَدْتُ نُهَساً بِالْأَسْوَافِ» هُوَ اسْمٌ لحَرَم الْمَدِينَةِ الَّذِي حَرَّمَه رسولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ. وَقَدْ تَكَرَّرَ فِي الْحَدِيثِ.

(سَوُفَ) السِّينُ وَالْوَاوُ وَالْفَاءُ ثَلَاثَةُ أُصُولٍ: أَحَدُهَا الشَّمُّ. يُقَالُ سُفْتُ الشَّيْءَ أَسُوفُهُ سَوْفًا، وَأَسَفْتُهُ. وَذَهَبَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ إِلَى أَنَّ قَوْلَهُمْ: بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُمْ مَسَافَةٌ، مِنْ هَذَا. قَالَ: وَكَانَ الدَّلِيلُ يَسُوفُ التُّرَابَ لِيَعْلَمَ عَلَى قَصْدٍ هُوَ أَمْ عَلَى جَوْرٍ. وَأَنْشَدُوا: إِذَا الدَّلِيلُ اسْتَافَ أَخْلَاقَ الطُّرُقِ

أَيْ شَمَّهَا.

وَالْأَصْلُ الثَّانِي: السُّوَافُ: ذَهَابُ الْمَالِ وَمَرَضُهُ. يُقَالُ أَسَافَ الرَّجُلُ، إِذَا وَقَعَ فِي مَالِهِ السُّوَافُ. قَالَ حُمَيْدُ بْنُ ثَوْرٍ:

أَسَافَا مِنَ الْمَالِ التِّلَادِ وَأَعْدَمَا

وَأَمَّا التَّأْخِيرُ فَالتَّسْوِيفُ. يُقَالُ سَوَّفْتُهُ، إِذَا أَخَّرْتَهُ، إِذَا قُلْتَ سَوْفَ أَفْعَلُ كَذَا.
