سَهَبَ(n. ac. سَهْب)
a. Took.

أَسْهَبَa. Started off (horse).
b. Was greedy, insatiable.
c. Gave largely.
d. [Fī], Was prolix in ( his speech ).

سَهْبa. Desert.

سُهْب
(pl.
سُهُوْب)
a. Vast plain; steppe.

أَسْهَبَa. Prolix, loquacious, verbose.

(سَهَبَ) السِّينُ وَالْهَاءُ وَالْبَاءُ أَصْلٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى الِاتِّسَاعِ فِي الشَّيْءِ. وَالْأَصْلُ السَّهْبُ، وَهِيَ الْفَلَاةُ الْوَاسِعَةُ، ثُمَّ يُسَمَّى الْفَرَسُ الْوَاسِعُ الْجَرْيِ سَهْبًا. وَيُقَالُ بِئْرٌ سَهْبَةٌ، أَيْ بَعِيدَةُ الْقَعْرِ. وَيُقَالُ حَفَرَ الْقَوْمُ فَأَسْهَبُوا، أَيْ بَلَغُوا الرَّمْلَ. وَإِذَا كَانَ كَذَا كَانَ أَكْثَرَ لِلْمَاءِ وَأَوْسَعَ لَهُ. وَيُقَالُ لِلرَّجُلِ الْكَثِيرِ الْكَلَامِ مُسْهَبٌ، بِفَتْحِ الْهَاءِ. كَذَا جَاءَ عَنِ الْعَرَبِ أَسْهَبَ فَهُوَ مُسْهَبٌ، وَهُوَ نَادِرٌ.
