سمندل: أَبو سعيد: السَّمَنْدَلُ طائر إِذا انقطع نَسْلُهُ وهَرِمَ

أَلْقى نفسه في الجَمْر فيعود إِلى شَبابه، وقال غيره: هو دابَّة يدخل النار

فلا تُحْرِقه.

سمندل



سَمَنْدَلٌ [The phenix;] a certain bird that is in India; that enters into the fire without having its plumage burned: (Kr, M, K: * [mentioned in the M as a quadriliteral-radical word; the ن being regarded by ISd as augmentative:]) also called سَبَنْدَلٌ, with ب [in the place of م]: it is said that when it becomes extremely aged, and is without offspring, it casts itself into burning coals, and returns to its youthful state. السَّمَنْدَلُ، كسَفَرْجَلٍ، أَهْمَلَهُ الجَوْهَرِيُّ، وقالَ أَبُو سَعيدٍ: طَائِرٌ بالْهِنْدِ، لَا يَحْتَرِقُ بِالنَّارِ، ويُقالُ: فيهِ أَيْضا: السَّبَنْدَلُ، بالباءِ، عَن كُرَاعٍ، ويُقالُ: إِنَّهُ إِذا هَرِمَ وانْقَطَعَ نَسْلُهُ أَلْقَى نَفْسَهُ فِي الجَمْرِ، فيَعُودُ إِلَى شَبابِهِ.
