(س م ط) : (السِّمْطُ) الْخَيْطُ مَا دَامَ فِيهِ الْخَرَزُ أَوْ اللُّؤْلُؤُ وَإِلَّا فَهُوَ سِلْكٌ (وَبِهِ) سُمِّيَ وَالِدُ شُرَحْبِيلِ بْنِ السِّمْطِ وَمَا وَقَعَ فِي السِّيَرِ مِنْ فَتْحِ السِّينِ وَكَسْرِ الْمِيمِ سَهْوٌ وَفِي حَدِيثِ نَافِعٍ «لُبْسُ الْحَرِيرِ الْمُسْمَطِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ حَرَامٌ» تَصْحِيفٌ وَإِنَّمَا الصَّوَابُ الْمُصْمَتُ.
