السّمحاق: السِّمْحاقُ: جِلْدَةٌ رقيقةٌ فوق قَحْفِ الرأس [إذا انتهت الشّجةُ إليها سُمِّيِتْ سِمْحاقاً. وكلّ جلْدةٍ رقيقة تُشْبِهُهُا تُسمَّى سِمْحاقاً. ويُقال: سماحيق السّلا والمشيمة، وهي طرائق رقاق. قال:

يشق سماحيق السّلا عن جنينها

ومنه قيل: في السّماء سماحيق من غيم. السمحوق: الطويل الدقيق.
