سكع: سكع لفلان: لا تعني تلفت إليه كما يقول فريتاج تبعاً لها بيشت، بل تعنى: حياه باحناء رأسه. ويقال سقع وصقع أيضاً (فليشر معجم ص66) وفي قصة عنتر (ص73): سكعوا بين يديه.

فِي حَدِيثِ أُمِّ مَعْبَد وَهَلْ يَسْتوى ضُلاَّلُ قَوم تَسَكَّعُوا أَيْ تَحَيَّروا. والتَّسَكُّعُ: التَّمَادِي فِي الباطِل.

سَكَعَ، كمَنَعَ وفرحَ: مَشَى مَشْياً مُتَعَسِّفاً لا يَدْرِي أين يأخُذُ في بِلادِ الله، وتَحَيَّرَ،
كَتَسَكَّعَ،
ورجُلٌ ساكِعٌ وسَكِعٌ: غريبٌ.
وما أدري أين سَكَعَ: أين ذَهَبَ.
وما يَدْرِي أين يَسْكَعُ من أرضِ الله: أين يأخُذُ.
والمُسَكِّعَةُ، كمحدّثةٍ: المُضِلَّةُ من الأرَضِينَ لا يُهْتَدَى فيها لوجْهِ الأمرِ.
وَتَسَكَّعَ: تَمادَى في الباطِلِ.
