س ط ح: (سَطْحُ) كُلِّ شَيْءٍ أَعْلَاهُ. وَ (سَطَحَ) اللَّهُ الْأَرْضَ بَسَطَهَا مِنْ بَابِ قَطَعَ. وَ (تَسْطِيحُ) الْقَبْرِ ضِدُّ تَسْنِيمِهِ. وَ (السَّطِيحُ) وَ (السَّطِيحَةُ) بِكَسْرِ الطَّاءِ فِيهِمَا الْمَزَادَةُ. وَ (الْمَسْطَحُ) بِفَتْحِ الْمِيمِ وَكَسْرِهَا الْمَوْضِعُ الَّذِي يُبْسَطُ فِيهِ التَّمْرُ وَيُجَفَّفُ.

(سَطَحَ) السِّينُ وَالطَّاءُ وَالْحَاءُ أَصْلٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى بَسْطِ الشَّيْءِ وَمَدِّهِ، مِنْ ذَلِكَ السَّطْحُ مَعْرُوفٌ. وَسَطْحُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ: أَعْلَاهُ الْمُمْتَدُّ مَعَهُ. وَيُقَالُ انْسَطَحَ الرَّجُلُ، إِذَا امْتَدَّ عَلَى قَفَاهُ فَلَمْ يَتَحَرَّكْ، وَلِذَلِكَ سُمِّيَ الْمُنْبَسِطُ عَلَى قَفَاهُ مِنَ الزَّمَانَةِ سَطِيحًا. وَسَطِيحٌ: الْكَاهِنُ سُمِّيَ سَطِيحًا لِأَنَّهُ كَذَلِكَ خُلِقَ بِلَا عَظْمٍ. وَالْمَسْطَحُ، بِفَتْحِ الْمِيمِ: الْمَوْضِعُ الَّذِي يُبْسَطُ فِيهِ التَّمْرُ. وَالْمِسْطَحُ، بِكَسْرِ الْمِيمِ: الْخِبَاءُ، وَالْجَمْعُ مَسَاطِحُ. قَالَ الشَّاعِرُ:

تَعَرَّضَ ضَيْطَارُو خُزَاعَةَ دُونَنَا ... وَمَا خَيْرُ ضَيْطَارٍ يُقَلِّبُ مِسْطَحَا

وإّنّما سُمِّيَ بِذَلِكَ لِأَنَّهُ تُمَدُّ الْخَيْمَةُ بِهِ مَدًّا. وَالسَّطِيحَةُ: الْمَزَادَةُ، وَإِنَّمَا سُمِّيَتْ بِذَلِكَ لِأَنَّهُ إِذَا سَقَطَ انْسَطَحَ، أَيِ امْتَدَّ. وَالسُّطَّاحُ: نَبْتٌ مِنْ نَبَاتِ الْأَرْضِ، وَذَلِكَ أَنَّهُ يَنْبَسِطُ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ.
