سدن: سَدِنْ = سادِن (عبد الواحد ص218) سِدَّان وجمعها سدادين: عامية سِندان (محيط المحيط).
سِادن: لا يطلق فقط على حاجب الكعبة وخادمها فقط، بل يطلق على غيره من حجبة الجوامع وخدمها. ففي حيان - بسام (3: 143 و): بعض سدنة الجامع، ويريد به جامع قرطبة.

(هـ) فِيهِ ذِكْرُ «سِدَانَةِ الكْعبة» هِيَ خِدْمَتُهَا وَتَوَلِّي أَمْرِهَا، وَفَتْحُ بَابِهَا وَإِغْلَاقُهُ يُقَالُ سَدَنَ يَسْدُنُ فَهُوَ سَادِنٌ. وَالْجَمْعُ سَدَنَةٌ. وَقَدْ تكرر في الحديث.

(سَدُنَ) السِّينُ وَالدَّالُ وَالنُّونُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ لِشَيْءٍ مَخْصُوصٍ. يُقَالُ إِنَّ السَّدَانَةَ الْحِجَابَةُ. وَسَدَنَةُ الْبَيْتِ: حَجَبَتُهُ. وَيَقُولُونَ: السَّدَنُ السِّتْرُ. فَإِنْ كَانَ صَحِيحًا فَهُوَ مِنْ بَابِ الْإِبْدَالِ، وَالْأَصْلُ السُِّدْلُ.
