سخت: سخْتيتُ وجمعه سَخاتيت ديوان الهذليين ص202، البيت 40.
سختيان: فوطه، صدار، وهي قطعة من جلد السختيان أو من أي جلد يصنعه الصانع وبخاصة الاسكاف على صدره ليقي بها ملابسه عند العمل (برجرن) سختيانة = سختيان: جلد المعز المدبوغ (ألف ليلة برسل 3: 331).

(سَخَتَ) السِّينُ وَالْخَاءُ وَالتَّاءُ لَيْسَ أَصْلًا، وَمَا أَحْسَِبُ الْكَلَامَ الَّذِي فِيهِ مِنْ مَحْضِ اللُّغَةِ. يَقُولُونَ لِلشَّيْءِ الصُّلْبِ سَخْتٌ وَسِخْتِيتٌ. ثُمَّ يَقُولُونَ أَمْرٌ مِسْخَاتٌ إِذَا ضَعُفَ وَذَهَبَ. وَهَذَانَ مُخْتَلِفَانِ، وَلِذَلِكَ قُلْنَا إِنَّ الْبَابَ فِي نَفْسِهِ لَيْسَ بِأَصْلٍ. عَلَى أَنَّهُمْ حَكَوْا عَنْ أَبِي زَيْدٍ: اسْخَاتَّ الْجُرْحُ: ذَهَبَ وَرَمُهُ. فَأَمَّا السُّخْتُ الَّذِي ذَكَرْنَاهُ عَنْ ثَعْلَبٍ فِي آخِرِ كِتَابِهِ، فَقَدْ قِيلَ إِنَّهُ السُّخْدُ. وَهُوَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ مِنَ الْمَشْكُوكِ فِيهِ.
