تزهم: تعفن (باين سميث 1491).
زَهْم وزَهْمة: دفر، سهك، عفن، عفونة، نتانة، رائحة كريهة (معجم المنصوري)، وفيه زَهَم المصدر وزُهْم الاسم.
زَهْمَة: الرائحة الخبيثة الحادة (محيط المحيط).
زهمة: طعم طيور الغدران ورائحتها (بوشر).
زهيم: دسم، سمين (بوشر).
زهامة: شحم، دسم، دهن (فوك).

(س) فِي حَدِيثِ يَأْجُوجَ وَمَأْجُوجَ «وَتَجْأَى الأرضُ مِنْ زَهَمِهِمْ» الزَّهَمُ بِالتَّحْرِيكِ. مصدَرُ زَهِمَتْ يدُه تَزْهَمُ مِنْ رَائِحة اللَّحْمِ. والزُّهْمَةُ بِالضَّمِّ: الرّيحُ المُنْتِنَة، أرادَ أَنَّ الْأَرْضَ تُنْتِن مِنْ جيفهم.

(زَهِمَ) الزَّاءُ وَالْهَاءُ وَالْمِيمُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى سِمَنٍ وَشَحْمٍ وَمَا أَشْبَهَ ذَلِكَ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ الزَّهَمُ، وَهُوَ أَنْ تَزْهَمَ الْيَدُ مِنَ اللَّحْمِ. وَذَكَرَ نَاسٌ أَنَّ الزُّهْمَ شَحْمُ الْوَحْشِ، وَأَنَّهُ اسْمٌ لِذَلِكَ خَاصَّةً، وَيَقُولُونَ لِلسَّمِينِ زَهِمٌ. فَأَمَّا قَوْلُهُمْ فِي الْحِكَايَةِ عَنْ أَبِي زَيْدٍ أَنَّ الْمُزَاهَمَةَ الْقُرْبُ، وَيُقَالُ زَاهَمَ فُلَانٌ الْأَرْبَعِينَ، أَيْ دَانَاهَا، فَمُمْكِنٌ أَنْ يُحْمَلَ عَلَى الْأَصْلِ الَّذِي ذَكَرْنَاهُ، لِأَنَّهُ كَأَنَّهُ أَرَادَ التَّلَطُّخَ بِهَا وَمُمَاسَّتَهَا. وَيُمْكِنُ أَنْ يَكُونَ مِنَ الْإِبْدَالِ، وَتَكُونُ الْمِيمُ بَدَلًا مِنَ الْقَافِ، لِأَنَّ الزَّاهِقَ عَيْنُ السَّمِينِ. وَقَدْ ذَكَرْنَاهُ.
