ز ن ج : الزِّنْجُ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ السُّودَانِ تَسْكُنُ تَحْتَ خَطِّ الِاسْتِوَاءِ وَجَنُوبِيَّهُ وَلَيْسَ وَرَاءَهُمْ عِمَارَةٌ قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ وَتَمْتَدُّ بِلَادُهُمْ مِنْ الْمَغْرِبِ إلَى قُرْبِ الْحَبَشَةِ وَبَعْضُ بِلَادِهِمْ عَلَى نِيلِ مِصْرَ الْوَاحِدُ زِنْجِيٌّ مِثْلُ: رُومٍ وَرُومِيٍّ وَهُوَ بِكَسْرِ الزَّايِ وَالْفَتْحُ لُغَةٌ.
