زحف
أصل الزَّحْفِ: انبعاث مع جرّ الرّجل، كانبعاث الصّبيّ قبل أن يمشي وكالبعير إذا أعيا فجرّ فرسنه ، وكالعسكر إذا كثر فيعثر انبعاثه.
قال: إِذا لَقِيتُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا زَحْفاً
[الأنفال/ 15] ، والزَّاحِفُ: السّهم يقع دون الغرض.

(زَحَفَ) الزَّاءُ وَالْحَاءُ وَالْفَاءُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى الِانْدِفَاعِ وَالْمُضِيِّ قُدُمًا. فَالزَّحْفُ: الْجَمَاعَةُ يَزْحَفُونَ إِلَى الْعَدُوِّ. وَالصَّبِيُّ يَزْحَفُ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ قَبْلَ الْمَشْيِ. وَالْبَعِيرُ إِذَا أَعْيَا فَجَرَّ فِرْسِنَهُ فَهُوَ يَزْحَفُ. وَهِيَ إِبِلٌ زَوَاحِفُ، الْوَاحِدَةُ زَاحِفَةٌ. قَالَ:

عَلَى زَوَاحِفَ نُزْجِيَهَا مَحَاسِيرِ وَيُقَالُ زَحَفَ الدَّبَا، إِذَا مَضَى قُدُمًا. وَالزَّاحِفُ: السَّهْمُ الَّذِي يَقَعُ دُونَ الْغَرَضِ ثُمَّ يَزْحَفُ. وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِالصَّوَابِ.
