الرَّتْعُ أصله: أكل البهائم، يقال: رَتَعَ يَرْتَعُ رُتُوعاً ورِتَاعاً ورِتْعاً، قال تعالى: يَرْتَعْ وَيَلْعَبْ
[يوسف/ 12] ، ويستعار للإنسان إذا أريد به الأكل الكثير، وعلى طريق التشبيه قال الشاعر:
وإذا يخلو له لحمي رتع
ويقال: رَاتِعٌ ورِتَاعٌ في البهائم، ورَاتِعُونَ في الإنسان.
