(رَبَلَ) الرَّاءُ وَالْبَاءُ وَاللَّامُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى تَجَمُّعٍ وَكَثْرَةٍ فِي انْضِمَامٍ. يُقَالُ رَبَلَ الْقَوْمُ يَرْبُلُونَ. وَالرَّبِيلَةُ: السِّمَنُ. قَالَ الشَّاعِرُ:

وَلَمْ يَكُ مَثْلُوجَ الْفُؤَادِ مُهَبَّجًا ... أَضَاعَ الشَّبَابَ فِي الرَّبِيلَةِ وَالْخَفْضِ

وَمِنَ الْبَابِ الرَّبَْلَةُ: بَاطِنُ الْفَخِذِ، وَالْجَمْعُ الرَّبَلَاتُ. وَامْرَأَةٌ مُتَرَبِّلَةٌ: كَثِيرَةُ اللَّحْمِ; وَقَدْ تَرَبَّلَتْ. وَالِاسْمُ الرَّبَالَةُ.

وَمِمَّا يُقَارِبُ هَذَا الْبَابَ الرَّبْلُ، وَهُوَ ضُرُوبٌ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ، إِذَا بَرَدَ الزَّمَانُ عَلَيْهَا وَأَدْبَرَ الصَّيْفُ، تَفَطَّرَتْ بِوَرَقٍ أَخْضَرَ مِنْ غَيْرِ مَطَرٍ. يُقَالُ تَرَبَّلَتِ الْأَرْضُ. وَمِنَ الَّذِي يُقَارِبُ هَذَا: الرِّئْبَالُ، وَهُوَ الْأَسَدُ; سُمِّيَ بِذَلِكَ لِتَجَمُّعِ خَلْقِهِ.
