ذُدْتُهُ عن كذا أَذُودُهُ. قال تعالى: وَوَجَدَ مِنْ دُونِهِمُ امْرَأَتَيْنِ تَذُودانِ
[القصص/ 23] ، أي:

(ذَوَدَ) الذَّالُ وَالْوَاوُ وَالدَّالُ أَصْلَانِ: أَحَدُهُمَا تَنْحِيَةُ الشَّيْءِ عَنِ الشَّيْءِ، وَالْآخَرُ جَمَاعَةُ الْإِبِلِ. وَمُحْتَمِلٌ أَنْ يَكُونَ الْبَابَانِ رَاجِعَيْنِ إِلَى أَصْلٍ وَاحِدٍ.

فَالْأَوَّلُ قَوْلُهُمْ: ذُدْتُ فُلَانًا عَنِ الشَّيْءِ أَذُودُهُ ذَوْدًا، وَذُدْتُ إِبِلِي أَذُودُهَا ذَوْدًا وَذِيَادًا. وَيُقَالُ أَذَدْتُ فُلَانًا: أَعَنْتُهُ عَلَى ذِيَادِ إِبِلِهِ.

وَالْأَصْلُ الْآخَرُ الذَّوْدُ مِنَ النَّعَمِ. قَالَ أَبُو زَيْدٍ: الذَّوْدُ مِنَ الثَّلَاثَةِ إِلَى الْعَشَرَةِ.
