(دَوَسَ) الدَّالُ وَالْوَاوُ وَالسِّينُ أُصَيْلٌ، وَهُوَ دَوْسُ الشَّيْءِ. تَقُولُ دُسْتُهُ; وَالَّذِي يُدَاسُ بِهِ مِدْوَسٌ. وَحُمِلَ عَلَيْهِ قَوْلُهُمْ لِمَا يَسُنُّ بِهِ الصَّيْقَلُ السَّيْفَ مِدْوَسٌ، كَأَنَّهُ عِنْدَ اتِّكَائِهِ عَلَيْهِ كَالَّذِي يَدُوسُ الشَّيْءَ. قَالَ:

وَأَبْيَضَ كَالْغَدِيرِ ثَوَى عَلَيْهِ ... فُلَانٌ بِالْمَدَاوِسِ نِصْفَ شَهْرِ
