وجه كأنه الدينار الهرقليّ. قال:

كأن دنانيراً على قسماتهم ... وإن كان قد شفّ الوجوه لقاء

وذهب مدنر: مضروب.

ومن المجاز: ثوب مدنر: وشيه كالدينار، نحو مسهم ومرحل. قال ابن المفرغ:

وبرود مدنرات وقز ... وملاء من أعتق الكتان

وبرذون مدنر اللون: أشهب مفلس بسواد. وكلمته فدنر وجهه إذا أشرق.
