(دَبَى) الدَّالُ وَالْبَاءُ وَالْيَاءُ لَيْسَ أَصْلًا، وَإِنَّمَا [هُوَ] كَلِمَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ، ثُمَّ يُحْمَلُ عَلَيْهَا تَشْبِيهًا. فَالدُّبَا: الْجَرَادُ إِذَا تَحَرَّكَ. وَالتَّشْبِيهُ قَوْلُهُمْ: أَدْبَى الرِّمْثُ، أَوَّلَ مَا يَتَفَطَّرُ; وَذَلِكَ لِأَنَّهُ يُشَبَّهُ بِالدَّبَا. وَذَكَرَ بَعْضُهُمْ: جَاءَ فُلَانٌ بدَبَادَبَا، إِذَا جَاءَ بِمَالٍ كَالدَّبَا. وَيُقَالُ أَرْضٌ مَدْبَاةٌ: كَثِيرَةُ الدَّبَا. وَمَدْبِيَّةٌ: أَكَلَ الدَّبَا نَبَاتَهَا.
