(خَزَنَ) الْخَاءُ وَالزَّاءُ وَالنُّونُ أَصْلٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى صِيَانَةِ الشَّيْءِ. يُقَالُ خَزَنْتُ الدِّرْهَمَ وَغَيْرَهُ خَزْنًا ; وَخَزَنْتُ السِّرَّ. قَالَ:

إِذَا الْمَرْءُ لَمْ يَخْزُنْ عَلَيْهِ لِسَانُهُ ... فَلَيْسَ عَلَى شَيْءٍ سِوَاهُ بِخَزَّانِ

فَأَمَّا خَزِنَ اللَّحْمُ: تَغَيَّرَتْ رَائِحَتُهُ، فَلَيْسَ مِنْ هَذَا، إِنَّمَا هَذَا مِنَ الْمَقْلُوبِ وَالْأَصْلُ خَنِزَ. وَقَدْ ذُكِرَ فِي مَوْضِعِهِ. قَالَ طَرَفَةُ فِي خُزِنَ:

ثُمَّ لَا يَخْزَنُ فِينَا لَحْمُهَا ... إِنَّمَا يَخْزَنُ لَحْمُ الْمُدَّخِرْ
