(خَدَجَ) الْخَاءُ وَالدَّالُ وَالْجِيمُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى النُّقْصَانِ. يُقَالُ خَدَجَتِ النَّاقَةُ، إِذَا أَلْقَتْ وَلَدَهَا قَبْلَ النِّتَاجِ. فَإِنْ أَلْقَتْهُ نَاقِصَ الْخَلْقِ وَلِتَمَامِ الْحَمْلِ فَقَدْ أَخْدَجَتْ. قَالَ ابْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ: أَخْدَجَتِ الصَّيْفَةُ: قَلَّ مَطَرُهَا. وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ: «كُلُّ صَلَاةٍ لَمْ يُقْرَأْ فِيهَا بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ فَهِيَ خِدَاجٌ» .
