حَنَّاط: من يحنَّط الميت أي يجعل عليه الحنوط (باين سميث 1320).

(حَنَطَ) الْحَاءُ وَالنُّونُ وَالطَّاءُ لَيْسَ بِذَلِكَ الْأَصْلِ الَّذِي يُقَاسُ مِنْهُ أَوْ عَلَيْهِ، وَفِيهِ أَنَّهُ حَبٌّ أَوْ شَبِيهٌ بِهِ. فَالْحِنْطَةُ مَعْرُوفَةٌ. وَيُقَالُ لِلرَّمْثِ إِذَا ابْيَضَّ وَأَدْرَكَ قَدْ حَنِطَ. وَذَكَرَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَنَّهُ يُقَالُ أَحْمَرُ حَانِطٌ، كَمَا يُقَالُ أَسْوَدُ حَالِكٌ. وَهَذَا مَحْمُولٌ عَلَى أَنَّ الْحِنْطَةَ يُقَالُ [لَهَا] الْحَمْرَاءُ. وَقَدْ ذُكِرَ.
