(حَقَوَ) الْحَاءُ وَالْقَافُ وَالْحَرْفُ الْمُعْتَلُّ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ، وَهُوَ بَعْضُ أَعْضَاءِ الْبَدَنِ. فَالْحِقْوُ الْخَصْرُ وَمَشَدُّ الْإِزَارِ. وَلِذَلِكَ سُمِّيَ مَا اسْتَدَقَّ مِنَ السَّهْمِ مِمَّا يَلِي الرِّيشَ حَقْوًا. فَأَمَّا الْحَدِيثُ " «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْطَى النِّسَاءَ اللَّوَاتِي غَسَّلْنَ ابْنَتَهُ حَقْوَةً» " فَجَاءَ فِي التَّفْسِيرِ أَنَّهُ الْإِزَارُ، وَجَمْعُهُ حِقِيٌّ، فَهَذَا إِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ حِقْوًا لِأَنَّهُ يَشُدُّ بِهِ الْحِقْوَ. وَأَمَّا الْحَقْوَةُ فَوَجَعٌ يُصِيبُ الْإِنْسَانَ فِي بَطْنِهِ ; يُقَالُ مِنْهُ حُقِيَ الرَّجُلُ فَهُوَ مَحْقُوٌّ.
