حَفْن:
بلا ألف: من قرى الصعيد، وقيل: ناحية من نواحي مصر، وفي الحديث: أهدى المقوقس إلى النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم، مارية من حفن من رستاق أنصنا وكلّم الحسن بن عليّ، رضي الله عنه، معاوية لأهل حفن فوضع عنهم خراج الأرض.

(حَفَنَ) الْحَاءُ وَالْفَاءُ وَالنُّونُ كَلِمَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ، مُنْقَاسٌ، وَهُوَ جَمْعُ الشَّيْءِ فِي كَفٍّ أَوْ غَيْرِ ذَلِكَ. فَالْحَفْنَةُ: مِلْءُ كَفَّيْكَ مِنَ الطَّعَامِ. يُقَالُ حَفَنْتُ الشَّيْءَ حَفْنًا بِيَدِيَّ. وَمِنْهُ حَدِيثُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ: " إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ حَفْنَةٌ مِنْ حَفَنَاتِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى "، مَعْنَاهُ أَنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى إِذَا شَاءَ أَدْخَلَ خَلْقَهُ الْجَنَّةَ، وَأَنَّ ذَلِكَ يَسِيرٌ عِنْدَهُ كَالْحَفْنَةِ. وَيُقَالُ احْتَفَنْتُ الشَّيْءَ لِنَفْسِي، إِذَا أَخَذْتَهُ. وَيُقَالُ الْحُفْنَةُ إِنَّهَا الْحُفْرَةُ ; فَإِنْ صَحَّ فَمُحْتَمِلٌ الْوَجْهَيْنِ: أَحَدُهُمَا أَنْ يَكُونَ مِنْ بَابِ الْإِبْدَالِ، فَتَجْعَلَ النُّونَ بَدَلَ الرَّاءِ. وَيَجُوزُ أَنْ يَكُونَ مِنَ الْبَابِ الَّذِي ذَكَرْنَاهُ، لِأَنَّهَا تَجْمَعُ الشَّيْءَ مِنْ مَاءٍ أَوْ غَيْرِهِ. وَالْحَفَّانُ لَيْسَ مِنْ هَذَا الْبَابِ، وَقَدْ مَضَى ذِكْرُهُ لِأَنَّ النُّونَ فِيهِ زَائِدَةٌ.
