(حَرَزَ) الْحَاءُ وَالرَّاءُ وَالزَّاءُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ، وَهُوَ مِنَ الْحِفْظِ وَالتَّحَفُّظِ يُقَالُ حَرَزْتُهُ وَاحْتَرَزَ هُوَ، أَيْ تَحَفَّظَ. وَنَاسٌ يَذْهَبُونَ إِلَى أَنَّ هَذِهِ الزَّاءَ مُبْدَلَةٌ مِنْ سِينٍ، وَأَنَّ الْأَصْلَ الْحَرْسُ وَهُوَ وَجْهٌ. وَفِي الْكِتَابِ الَّذِي لِلْخَلِيلِ أَنَّ الْحَرَزَ جَوْزٌ مَحْكُوكٌ يُلْعَبُ بِهِ، وَالْجَمْعُ أَحْرَازٌ. قُلْنَا: وَهَذَا شَيْءٌ لَا يُعَرَّجُ عَلَيْهِ وَلَا مَعْنَى لَهُ.
