(جهد) - في الحَدِيثِ "إذا جَلَس بين شُعَبِها الأَرْبع، ثم جَهَدها، وجَبَ الغُسلُ" .
قال صاحب التَّتِمَّة: أي حَفَزَها ودَفَعها. وقيل: أَرادَ التقاءَ الخِتَانَيْن.
وقال ابنُ الأَعرابي: الجَهْد: من أَسماءِ النِّكاح.

(جُهْدٌ) الْجِيمُ وَالْهَاءُ وَالدَّالُ أَصْلُهُ الْمَشَقَّةُ، ثُمَّ يُحْمَلُ عَلَيْهِ مَا يُقَارِبُهُ. يُقَالُ جَهَدْتُ نَفْسِي وَأَجْهَدْتُ وَالْجُهْدُ الطَّاقَةُ. قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: {وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَجِدُونَ إِلَّا جُهْدَهُمْ} [التوبة: 79] . وَيُقَالُ: إِنَّ الْمَجْهُودَ اللَّبَنُ الَّذِي أُخْرِجَ زُبْدُهُ، وَلَا يَكَادُ ذَلِكَ [يَكُونُ] إِلَّا بِمَشَقَّةٍ وَنَصَبٍ. قَالَ الشَّمَّاخُ:

تُضْحِ وَقَدْ ضَمِنَتْ ضَرَّاتُهَا غُرَقًا ... مِنْ طَيِّبِ الطَّعْمِ حُلْوٍ غَيْرِ مَجْهُودِ

وَمِمَّا يُقَارِبُ الْبَابَ الْجَهَادُ، وَهِيَ الْأَرْضُ الصُّلْبَةُ. وَفُلَانٌ يَجْهَدُ الطَّعَامَ، إِذَا حَمَلَ عَلَيْهِ بِالْأَكْلِ الْكَثِيرِ الشَّدِيدِ. وَالْجَاهِدُ: الشَّهْوَانُ. وَمَرْعًى جَهِيدٌ: جَهَدَهُ الْمَالُ لِطِيبِهِ فَأَكَلَهُ.
