الجِرْهاس، بالكَسْر أهمله الجَوْهَرِيّ، وَقَالَ الليثُ: هُوَ الجَسِيمُ وَأنْشد: يُكْنى وَمَا حُوِّلَ عَن جِرْهاسِمن فَرْسِهِ الأُسْدَأبا فِراسِ الجِرْهاسُ أَيْضا: الأسدُ الغليظُ الشَّديد، نَقله الصَّاغانِيّ وابنُ دُرَيْدٍ.
