[ثول] الثَوْلُ: جماعة النحل. قال الاصمعي: لا واحد له من لفظه. وقولهم: ثَويلَةٌ من الناس، أي جماعةٌ جاءت من بيوتٍ متفرّقةٍ وصبيان ومال، حكاه يعقوب عن أبى صاعد. ويقال: تثول عليه القومُ، أي عَلَوْهُ بالشتْم والضرب. والثَوْلُ بالتحريك: جنونٌ يصيب الشاةَ فلا تتبع الغنم وتستديرُ في مرتعها. وشاةٌ ثَوْلاءُ وتيسٌ أَثْوَلُ. قال الشاعر : تَلْقى الأَمانَ على حِياضِ محمّدٍ ثَوْلاءُ مُخْرِفَةٌ وذئبٌ أطلس وانْثالَ عليه الترابُ، أي انصبَّ. يقال: انْثالَ عليه الناس من كلِّ وجهٍ، أي انصبُّوا.
