الثُّفَّاء : الحُرْف، سُمِّي به لِمَا يَتْبعَ في ذَوْقه: أي لَذْع الّلسان. يُقالُ: ثَفَاه يَثْفُوه وَيثْفِيه: اتَّبعَه، وتَسْمِيَتُه بالحُرْف لِحَرافَتِه.
