اسم مركب من السابقة ب ورباطة من (ر ب ط) بمعنى كثيرة ثبات القلب وشديدته عند الفزع وكثيرة شد الشيء. يستخدم للذكور.

برباطة: اسم نبات، جاء في المستعيني في مادة اشنان: ابن جناح: رأيت في بعض التراجم إنه البرباطة. غير أن مؤلف المستعيني يضيف: وهذا خطأ والاشنان هو الحمض.
