(بهت) - في الحَدِيث في صِفةِ اليَهُود: "إنَّهم قَومٌ بُهْتٌ". الواحد بَهُوتٌ، من بناء المُبَالَغَة في البُهْت، نحو: صَبُور وصُبُر، وجَزُور وجُزُر، ثم يُسَكَّن تَخِفيفاً، ولو كان جَمعَ باهتٍ. لكان بَهْتًا. بفَتْح أوله كسَائِر نَظائِره.

(بَهَتَ) الْبَاءُ وَالْهَاءُ وَالتَّاءُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ، وَهُوَ كَالدَّهَشِ وَالْحَيْرَةِ. يُقَالُ بُهِتَ الرَّجُلُ يُبْهَتُ بَهْتًا. وَالْبَهْتَةُ الْحَيْرَةُ. فَأَمَّا الْبُهْتَانُ فَالْكَذِبُ. يَقُولُ الْعَرَبُ: يَا لَلْبَهِيتَةِ، أَيْ يَا لَلْكَذِبِ.
