[برقع] البُرْقُعُ والبُرْقَعُ للدوابّ ولنساء الاعراب، وكذلك البرقوع. قال الشاعر النابغة الجعدى يصف خشفا : وخد كبرقوع الفتاة ملمع * وروقين لما يعدوا أن تقشرا * يقال برقعه فَتَبَرْقَعَ، أي ألبسه البُرْقُعَ فلبِسه. والمُبَرْقَعَةُ: الشاةُ البيضاءُ الرأسِ. والمُبَرْقِعَةُ بكسر القاف: غُرَّةُ الفرسِ إذا أخذتْ جميع وجهه غير أنه ينظر في سوادٍ. يقال غُرَّةٌ مُبَرْقَعَةٌ. وبِرْقِعُ بالكسر: اسمُ السماء السابعة، لا ينصرف. قال أمية بن أبي الصلت: فكأنّ بِرْقِعَ والمَلائِكَ حوله * سدر تواكله القوائم أجرب * قوله " سدر " أي بحر. وأجرب صفة البحر المشبه به السماء، فكأنه وصف البحر بالجرب لما يحصل فيه من الموج، أو لانه ترى فيه الكواكب كما ترى في السماء، فهى كالجرب له. وأما سماء الدنيا فهى الرقيع.
