(الْيَعْفُورُ) : الْخِشْفُ. قَالَ الْخَلِيلُ: سُمِّيَ بِذَلِكَ لِكَثْرَةِ لُزُوقِهِ بِالْأَرْضِ. قَالَ: تَقْطَعُ الْقَوْمَ إِلَى أَرْحُلِنَا ... آخِرَ اللَّيْلِ بِيَعْفُورٍ خَدِرْ

وَهَذَا مِمَّا زِيدَتِ الْيَاءُ فِي أَوَّلِهِ، وَإِنَّمَا هُوَ مِنَ الْعَفَرِ، وَهُوَ وَجْهُ الْأَرْضِ وَالتُّرَابِ.
