الوعظ: إهزاز النفس بموعود الجزاء ووعيده، قاله الحرالي. وقيل التذكير بالخير فيما يرق له القلب، ذكره الخليل.

وقال الراغب: الوعظ زجر مقترن بتخويف. وقال الحراني أيضا: دعوة الأشياء بما فيها من العبرة للانقياد للإله الحق بما يخوفها.
