عند المهندسين سطح مستو يحيط به قوسان متفقتا التحدّب، كلّ منهما غير أعظم من نصفي دائرتين، أي هما من دائرتين مختلفتين، كلّ منهما أقصر من نصفي هاتين الدائرتين، سمّي به تشبيها له بالهلال كذا في شرح خلاصة الحساب.
