الناموس: هو الشرع الذي شرعه الله تعالى أعني الإسلامَ، والناموس الأكبر، هو جبريل عليه السلام ويطلق على الوحي، وأيضاً الناموسُ صاحب السرِّ الخير، والجاسوسُ: ضده أي صاحب السر الشر.

الناموسُ: صاحِبُ السِّرِّ، المُطَّلِعُ على باطِنِ أمرِكَ، أو صاحِبُ سِرِّ الخيرِ، وجِبريلُ، صلى الله عليه وسلم، والحاذِقُ، ومن يَلْطُفُ مَدْخَلُهُ، وقُتْرَةُ الصائِدِ.
ونامَسَ: دَخَلَها، والشَّرَكُ، والنَّمَّامُ،
كالنَّمَّاسِ، وما تُنُمِّسَ به من الاحْتِيَالِ، وعِرِّيسَةُ الأسَدِ،
كالناموسَةِ.
والنِّمْسُ، بالكسر: دُوَيبَّةٌ بمصْرَ، تَقْتُلُ الثُّعْبَانَ، وبالتحريك: فَسَادُ السَّمْنِ، نَمِسَ، كفرِحَ.
والأنْمَسُ: الأكْدَرُ، ومنه يُقالُ للقَطا: نُمْسٌ، بالضم.
والتَّنْميسُ: التَّلْبِيسُ.
ونامَسَهُ: سارَّهُ.
ونامَسَ بينهم: أرَّشَ.
وانَّمَسَ، كافْتَعَلَ: اسْتَتَرَ.
