المعاقل: جمع معقلة بِفَتْح الْمِيم وَضم الْقَاف كالمكارم جمع مكرمَة - والمعقلة الدِّيَة وَتسَمى الدِّيَة عقلا وَهُوَ الْمَنْع والمسك لِأَنَّهَا تعقل الدِّمَاء من أَن تسفك أَي تمنعها وَتمسك من السفك وتمنع صَاحبهَا عَن القبائح.
