هو المقدار الذي نسبة أحد الطرفين إليه كنسبته إلى الطرف الآخر وهكذا الحال في الأعداد كما في متناسبة الفرد، فالمتوسّط في النّسبة والوسط في النّسبة بمعنى واحد، هكذا يستفاد من حواشي تحرير أقليدس.
